Asian Table Tennis Championship | Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath progress in mixed doubles; men’s team assured of the medal


The Indian pair of Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath advanced to the round of 16 in mixed doubles at the 2021 Asian Table Tennis Championships in Doha, Qatar, after overtaking the Mangolian team of Ser-Od Gankhuyag and Undram Munkhbat. India is assured of a medal in the men’s team event.

Continuing their fine form, Indians Manav Thakkar and Archana Girish Kamath advanced to the round of 16 in mixed doubles at the 2021 Asian Table Tennis Championships in Doha, Qatar. The Indian duo got the better of the Mango team of Ser-Od Gankhuyag and Undram Munkhbat 3-1 (11-6, 11-3, 5-11, 11-4) in their round of 16 mixed doubles.

The pair will now face the Kazakh team of Anastassiya Lavrova and Kirill Gerassimenko on Friday, according to a report on Olympics.com.

In contrast, Harmeet Desai and Sreeja Akula won their round of 16 against Bangladeshi Sadia Rahman Mou and Ramhimlian Bawm 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-3). They then faced Doo Hoi Kem and Wong Chun-ting from Hong Kong. But the duo faltered 3-1 (7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 7-11).

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team are in contention for a fifth place finish after beating Chinese Taipei 3-1. After losing to Japan in the quarterfinals, the women faced Taipei in the standings 5-8 and won it easily.

For the men’s team, it’s a happy moment because in the history of the tournament, they got their first medal after making it to the semi-finals. They will be in action on Friday.
