Bob O’Keeffe and Kym Guesdon promoted as part of BCEC management restructuring

As the 10-year countdown to the Brisbane Olympics draws to a close, Bob O’Keeffe and Kym Guesdon are being promoted as part of a strategic shakeup at ASM Global APAC.

O’Keeffe steps into the position of Chief Operating Officer – Venue Operations of ASM Global APAC, the management company of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC), combining these roles with the role of Managing Director of BCEC, two positions newly created.

In addition, Kym Guesdon, who serves in the dual role of ASM Global Group Director, Human Resources (HR) for the region as well as BCEC’s Director of Human Resources, has been appointed BCEC’s Managing Director, becoming the second person to hold this position in the 26-year history of the place.

O’Keeffe was the first.

Harvey Lister, President and CEO of ASM Global APAC, pulled the trigger on the management restructuring as a step towards “sustaining the place of continued growth as it heads into a period of development of ‘unprecedented infrastructure before the Brisbane Olympic era,’ he said in a statement.

The center is “the main driver” of business events in Brisbane and Queensland, says Guesdon, and “to move forward and ensure the success of the center, I also see my role as a key player in promoting of the destination”.

Ahead of the 2032 Summer Olympics, Brisbane’s infrastructure development had “already begun”, she continued, “and with increased additional investment under the official Olympic infrastructure programme, the Brisbane’s appeal as a professional events destination is set to soar.”

“Kym has been a senior executive at BCEC for more than 20 years and is intimately familiar with the Centre’s business and operational environment,” Lister comments. “She has played an extremely critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic and will be an outstanding CEO.”

O’Keeffe is expected to devote most of his time to head office duties, while remaining involved in BCEC operations and working closely with ASM Global’s network in Australia and Asia-Pacific.

ASM Global’s extensive portfolio includes more than 325 arenas, stadiums, convention centers and theaters across five continents, and includes Manchester Arena, American Airlines Arena in Miami and Soldier Field in Chicago.
