Ghana: Inaugural table tennis tournament held in Tamale

Northern Horse, an affiliate of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTF) and the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), organized a first tennis tournament in Tamale this weekend.

The purpose of the tournament was to encourage and support association members in the region to take tennis seriously.

The day’s event, held at Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), was hotly contested by 20 table tennis players from clubs in the Northern and Greater Accra regions.

Speaking to the media after the event, Mr. Osmond Amuah, Chairman of the Northern Horse Tennis Club, said the tournament would help put table tennis at the forefront of sporting activities in the region.

Mr. Amuah therefore pleaded with individuals and organizations to take a keen interest in the welfare of their members by encouraging them to circumcise regularly.

He was very optimistic that organizing table tennis games would not only help workers’ health, but also increase productivity.

The President pointed out that with the right investment and interest, Ghana can win many medals at the international level.

Sigma Ofori Emmanuel, a member of the Ghana Armed Forces Tennis Club, which won the men’s league, thanked the organizers for this initiative.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for allowing him to participate in the competition.

Meanwhile, women’s league winner Ms Eva Adom Amankwah called on the authorities to invest more in table tennis “so that the players of the game can develop and improve their skills”.

Winners and runners-up won certificates, medals, trophies and cash prizes.
