Indian athletes who could win medals on day five of the CWG 2022


The past three days have been very productive for Team India in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games as they have won nine medals. India is currently 6th on the medal list with Indian weightlifters winning the majority of the medals. Day 5 of the CWG 2022 will see Indian athletes battle for more medals as the bowls team looks to make history. The badminton and table tennis team will also be in action as they seek to retain the crown in their respective finals on Tuesday. Here’s a look at the potential medalists from Day 5 of the 2022 Commonwealth Games

India’s CWG 2022 athletes are likely to win a medal

Bodybuilding

Indian weightlifters had a tremendous Commonwealth Games 2022 winning majority of medals for India. Punam Yadav and Vikas Thakur will be looking to add medals to the tally as both lifters will be in action on Tuesday. Punam Yadav will participate in the women’s final of the 76 kg category.

Prior to the Commonwealth Games, Yadav had won the gold medal at the National Weightlifting Championships in Bhubaneswar. Punam has previously represented India at the Commonwealth Games and won medals. The 27-year-old won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with a total weight of 202kg (88S+114C&J), while at the 2018 Commonwealth Games she won a gold medal lifting a total of 222 kg (100S + 122C&J) in the 69 kg Division.

Vikas Thakur has already won silver and bronze at the Commonwealth Games and will be going for gold at CWG 2022. In February this year, Thakur clinched gold in the men’s 96kg event in Singapore and qualified for the Commonwealth Games. He hopes to repeat a similar performance at his next event.

Athletics: final of the women’s discussion throw

Seema Punia, 39, will be looking to win a medal on the opening day of the athletics event on Tuesday. Punia will be looking to add her fifth consecutive Commonwealth Games medal. Prior to CWG 2022, Punia had won three silver medals and one bronze in the previous four editions of the games. She will aim to change the color of her medal and try to bring home the gold.

Indian women’s bowling team

India’s four-man bowls team made history on Monday by reaching the 2022 CWG final after a remarkable win over New Zealand. The Indian team will face South Africa in the final and will try to clinch the gold medal.

Badminton – Mixed Finals

India’s mixed badminton team has so far staged an outstanding CWG 2022 event and reached the final after beating Singapore 3-0 in the semi-finals on Monday. The star-studded Indian side hardly broke a sweat from the start of the tournament, comfortably winning all of their matches. They will be looking to keep the momentum going and defend their title. India’s mixed badminton team consists of Lakshya Sen, Ashwini Ponnappa, B Sumeeth Reddy, PV Sindhu, Tressa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand and Chirag Shetty.

Table Tennis – Men’s Final

After the women’s team failed to defend their tag team title, the men’s team is aiming to retain the crown by winning the final on Tuesday. India comfortably cruised through league fixtures winning matches against Barbados, Singapore and the North Island. The team then beat Bangladesh and Nigeria to reach the final.
