King’s Lynn Bands Host Annual Christmas Tournaments

The Monday Morning Women’s Badminton Group and the Wednesday Women’s Multi-Sport Group, both based at Alive Lynnsport, hosted their annual Christmas tournaments.

Having missed last year, it was exciting for coach Janis Baker to host both events.

The badminton event featured eight pairs pulled from a hat and the tournament was held as a round robin tournament where everyone faced off, giving the eight pairs a total of seven games.

Each game was played at 21 points and the absolute winners without losing a single game were Joy Barnes and Maribel Lawrence.

The finalists, winning six games and losing only to Joy and Maribel 21-16 were Dana Gower and Su’en Miller.

Table tennis had the same number of ladies, playing the same format

This competition was much closer, as the partnership of Pauline Brockhurst / Mavis Hughes and Jill Biggs / Janet Scott each won six games.

A point tally meant Pauline and Mavis had 142 against Jill and Janet 137, making Pauline and Mavis table tennis champions – a fantastic achievement with the 85-year-old Mavis.

Both groups had a collection and raised £ 52 for Lynn Winter Night Shelter
