Thanks to direct qualifications, rankings or event standards, the Games in Chile will have a record number of 33 qualifying disciplines for Paris 2024.

SANTIAGO, CHILE (September 8, 2022) — Santiago 2023 will be the biggest qualification event in the world for Paris 2024 with the confirmation of a record number of Pan American Games disciplines offering entries to the Olympic Games in France.

Panam Sports President Neven Ilic announced the news during the 60th General Assembly of Panam Sports which was held for the first time in history in Chile last week.

“These Games will be a historic event with 6,900 athletes representing the largest number of competitors ever seen as well as a record number of qualifying disciplines for the Olympic Games,” said President Neven Ilic.

“It will be the sporting event that provides the most qualification for the Olympic Games in the world, which is one of the many reasons why Santiago 2023 will mark a before and after for Chilean sport,” said the leader. of the Olympic and International Movement of the Americas. The existence of this record number of Olympic qualifiers will allow the continent’s most important athletes to come together in various sports,” said Gianna Cunazza, general manager of Santiago 2023.

“It will be a great opportunity for all the athletes across the continent, especially those on the Chilean team who will have the opportunity to compete at home and fight to qualify for the Olympic Games with the added motivation of to be surrounded by the love of their families and friends,” said Chilean Olympic Committee President Miguel Angel Mujica.

A total of 33 disciplines will help athletes reach the Olympic Games in France, eight more than the previous record set by Lima 2019. Direct qualification will be granted in 21 disciplines while another 12 will offer points in the circuit ranking of qualification of that sport or will enable athletes to achieve the Olympic qualification standards of their sport in time or distance.

The continent’s largest multi-sport event will take place between October and November next year and will bring together more than 7,000 athletes and 2,000 para-athletes from the 41 countries of the Americas to compete in 39 sports and 17 para-sports, with 61 and 18 disciplines, respectively.

15 OF 18 PARAPANAMERICAN DISCIPLINES QUALIFY FOR PARIS 2024

The Parapan American Games will be held immediately after the Pan American Games and will include 15 disciplines that will serve as qualifiers for Paris 2024.

According to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC), six sports will grant direct qualification, including wheelchair basketball, 5-a-side football, goalball, para table tennis, wheelchair rugby wheelchair and wheelchair tennis. Nine other disciplines will give points for the Paralympic Ranking.
