Playing every Big Four member in 2019 was a special gift

Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero will never forget the 2019 season in which he played against every Big Four member – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Londero went winless in those four matches, but the experience of playing some of the greatest players in tennis history was something special for the Argentine.

Londero lost to Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, was beaten by Roger Federer at the Cincinnati Masters and also finished on the losing side against Novak Djokovic at the US Open. Londero managed to win a set against Murray at the Shanghai Masters, but he ended up losing in three sets.

“That year was a gift that tennis gave me: to have been able to play against all the members of the Big Four in one of the biggest stadiums in the world, the biggest in which I have played in all my career, is something that I will never forget.

So much so that at home I have a board with four photos of the matches I played against them, “Londero told Punto de Break.

Londero had its best season in 2019

Londero, 28, won his first ATP title in 2019 and reached a career ranking of No.1.

50 in the world. “Winning an ATP title in Cordoba, which is my home, was a dream. Plus, reaching the fourth round at Roland Garros was spectacular. Without a doubt, both were the best weeks of my life and in which I ‘ve had the most joy, “Londero admitted.

Londero has struggled since the start of the pandemic and has dropped to 170th. “It was a very difficult year and a half for everyone. Some players did well and continued to play as usual and others poorly. Unfortunately, I am in this group.

The pandemic hurt me because I was separated from my family for a long time. Also, being locked in a hotel, losing, traveling to another city and locking myself up again for a week was something that ended up influencing my game, ”explained Londero.
