Table tennis: the 2022 African clubs tournament underway in Lagos


A total of 16 African table tennis clubs comprised of nine male and seven female players will take part in the Club Championships which will be held today until May 25 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

At the end of the club championship, a total of 48 players (28 men and 20 women) will then compete in the African Cup from May 26 to 28 at the same place.

Ahead of the championship, International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa President Khaled El-Salhy described Lagos as the hub of table tennis on the continent after successfully hosting several AI-sanctioned events. ITTF.

He praised the Lagos State Government for what it has done for table tennis saying, “The city has become the hub of table tennis because all the players inside and outside People outside Africa are always eager to compete at the venue, especially with the huge spectators who most of the time support the players regardless of their teams.

“The ITTF now sees Lagos as one of the cities it cannot ignore when it comes to hosting top level competitions and for us in Africa we still believe that the state has the capacity to host major international tournaments.”
