Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to India’s badminton team that won the historic Thomas Cup victory on Sunday to congratulate the team.
He said sports analysts will have to regard this as India’s greatest sporting victory. He said he was especially happy that the team didn’t lose any sets.
He also told the Prime Minister that team spirit helps and that every player gives their 100%. The Prime Minister said the coaches also deserved all the appreciation.
“You all have achieved such an important achievement. The whole team deserves congratulations,” he said. Modi invited them to his residency with their coaches when they returned to India as he wanted to talk to them and listen to their experiences.
The Prime Minister asked for the winning team’s message for budding athletes and young children taking up sports like badminton, table tennis or swimming.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “The Indian badminton team has made history! The whole nation is delighted that India won the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future projects. This victory will motivate so many future athletes.”
