Table tennis: Mixed team: Sharath Kamal / Manika Batra lost to Lin Yun-ju / Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei 11-8, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4.

Archery : Mixed Team Quarter-Finals: India (Deepika Kumari / Pravin Jadhav) loses to South Korea (An San / Kim Je Deok) 6-2.

Tennis: Sumit Nagal beats Denis Istomin (UZB) 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4

MIRABAI WINS MONEY IN WEIGHTLIFTING

BADMINTON: India managed a surprise in men’s doubles. Satwiksairaj Reddy and Chirag Shetty hold their nerves to win a thriller 21-16,16-21, 27-25 against Yang Lee and Chi-Lin Wang of Chinese Taipei.

TENNIS: Sumit Nagal is in the second round. Nagal beat Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4 in two hours and 34 minutes. He is expected to face Russian (ROC) Daniil Medvedev in the next round.

BADMINTON: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lose Game 2 21-16 to Chinese Taipei’s Yang Lee and Chi-Lin Wang.

ARCHERY: QUAR-FINALS BY MIXED TEAM

India loses 6-2: Indians Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav lost 6-2 to South Koreans An San and Kim Je Deok. The Koreans won the fourth set 36-33. A 6 in Pravin Jadhav’s first shot cost India dearly. India finished with scores of 6,9,9,9 while the Koreans advanced with 10,7,10,9.

India win third set 37-35 to stay alive in contest (4-2) . The Indian pair recorded scores of 9,9,10.9 while the Koreans scored 9,9,9,8.

South Korea leads 4-0 after two sets with scores of 35-32, 38-37.

In the first set, India had a streak of 8,7,8,9 while Korea came in with 10,7,9,9.

In the second set, the Indians fared better with scores of 10,8,10.9, but the Koreans again outperformed the Indian pair with scores of 10,10,9,9.

BADMINTON: After the disappointment in men’s singles, some applaud India in men’s doubles. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty win the first game 21-16 over Yang Lee and Chi-Lin Wang of Chinese Taipei.

ARCHERY: QUAR-FINALS BY MIXED TEAM

It’s time for the mixed team quarter-finals. Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav are in the mix here. The Indian pair came back from behind after leading 3-1 in the match to defeat their opponents 5-3 and set a date with South Koreans An San and Kim Je Deok.

BADMINTON: India’s men’s singles campaign ended prematurely as Sai Praneeth lost 21-17, 21-15 to Israeli Misha Zilberman. It is a huge upheaval.

TENNIS: Sumit nagal loses second set 7-6 (6) to the tiebreaker. Denis Istomin was on top of the tiebreaker from the start and held on to make the game decisive. Sumit Nagal is ranked No. 160 while Istomin is No. 197. Note: 6-4, 6-7 (6)

BADMINTON: Sai Praneeth begins his men’s singles campaign against Israeli Misha Zilberman. The 13th seed Indian had a small mistake mid-game and is currently behind the Israeli 15-13. He loses the first game 21-17.

TENNIS: Positive start here by Sumit Nagal: He took the first set 6-4. Making his Olympic debut against world number 33 Uzbekistan, Nagal showed promise here, saving break points in the first set, including a crucial point in the final match. India are looking to win their first Olympic medal in singles and those hopes rest on Nagal’s shoulders. Mixed day of results so far. Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal is also in action today. He confronts Denis Istomin in the first round match in men’s singles.

TABLE TENNIS: 4-0: Indians Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra were beaten 11-8 11-6 11-5 11-4 in best of seven games by the pair from Chinese Taipei and it was a blow as the medal hope of the India in table tennis is fading. The match only lasted 27 minutes!

India lose the third game and it will be very difficult from here to organize a comeback. Is this the end of the course in the mixed team event?

India is down 2-0 and is now down 6-3, the game going in the direction of Chinese Taipei. It will be dramatic if Sharath and Manika can turn things around from this position.

Justin: Indian rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finished fifth in their heats for the men’s lightweight pair.

Third set 3-3: 10 perfect again from Pravin and Deepika also delivers to put the pressure on Chinese Taipei. A quick release from Pravin brings India closer and a 10 from Deepika helps India lead the tiebreaker.

The second set ends in a draw. Deepika and Pravin come back with a vengeance as they both hit the nail on the head, scoring the perfect 10 to take a small advantage. One point per play in the second set and Chinese Taipei continues to lead with 3-1 on the scoreboard.

The first set goes to Chinese Taipei 36-35 (2-0) because it is a disappointing start for Pravin Jadhav and Deepika Kumari.
