TOKYO – Woo Haram achieved the best Olympic performance for a South Korean diver when he placed fourth in the 3m springboard final on Tuesday.

Could an Olympic medal be in his near future? We’ll find out on the 10m platform, the next Woo event scheduled for Friday.

Woo will be among the 29 divers in the preliminaries. The first 18 will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. From there, the top 12 will advance to the final later that same day.

At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Woo reached the 10m platform final and finished in 11th place. He became the first South Korean diver to reach an Olympic final.

Also on Friday, South Korea will play in the men’s table tennis bronze medal match against Japan. South Korea lost to China in the semifinals on Wednesday to advance to third place.

The Lee Sang-su, Jeoung Young-sik and Jang Woo-jin trio represent the last remaining ping-pong medal hope for South Korea, which has been ruled out from the singles, mixed doubles and women’s team medals. (Yonhap)
