Ugandan team optimistic ahead of ITTF XIX Copa Tango in Argentina

The Uganda Para Table Tennis Team was officially nominated on Tuesday July 5, 2022 for the ITTF XIX Para Copa Tango tournament in South America, Argentina to be exact.

Sarah Chelangat, a National Sports Council (NCS) official performing flag duties outside the MTN Indoor Arena, Lugogo, Kampala City.

A few hours later, the team departed Entebbe International Airport for Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, for an overnight stopover, staying at the four-star Debredamo Hotel.

On the morning of Wednesday July 6, 2022, the team will embark on the journey to the final destination as they endure 11,216km across the South Atlantic Ocean.

The team has four athletes; the entity Harriet of Namatovu (Milan Table Tennis Academy) and Nakayima (Mwesigwa Table Tennis Club, Iganga), Yusuf Nsubuga (Mbogo Table Tennis Club) as well as Uthman Lukoye (Mbale Tigers Academy), under the guidance of Head Coach Edward Koboyi.

Lukoye thinks they had a good practice to make their case in Argentina.

“We trained well and also had several training camps in the UK (Birmingham) and South Africa. We expect to compete rather than participate,” revealed Lukoye.

Koboyi, this head coach, is also positive about the outstanding and spirited performances.

“The team has trained well. The goal is to perform well and gain access to ranking tournaments. The dream is alive,” reveals Koboyi.

Uganda held two different training camps in Birmingham, UK and Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ugandan players will play singles (8e at 9e July 2022) which will be played on a round-robin basis.

The team is also accompanied by the secretary of the Uganda Paralympic Committee, Innocent Tumwesigye.
